A three or four digit security number that usually appears on the back of your credit or debit card. Sometimes called a card security code (CSC) or card verification value (CVV), it provides extra protection against fraud.

In short
  • When asked for your CVV, be sure to enter it properly or your payment might not be successful.
  • CVVs can appear in different places on each card. Often, you can find your CVV on the back of your card, near or next to the area where you can add your signature. Some cards show it on the front, near your account number.

Where do I find card security (CVV) number?

It depends on the brand of the card:

  • On most cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover), the security code has 3-digits and is placed on the back, to the right of the signature.
  • On American Express cards, the security code has 4-digits on the front, to the top-right of the card number.
